💬 Warm-up — A Fall Morning Talk

T: How are you today?
Me: Yeah, it was okay. I was fine. The season is fall, so every day is cool.
T: Good, good.

가벼운 인사로 시작된 수업.
그는 태국에 살고 있어서 “It’s been a little rainy lately.”라고 했다.
가을 공기를 영어로 말하며 나도 마음이 풀렸다.

🧠 Topic 1 — Fake News Around the World

Me: What’s the biggest issue where you live these days?
T: There are some issues regarding the banking system.
Many scammers are opening ghost bank accounts to steal money.
Some innocent people’s accounts are being frozen by mistake.

‘Ghost bank account’라는 표현이 새로웠다.
나는 바로 반응했다.

Me: I feel like very scared.
T: I feel very scared. 🙂 (kindly corrected me)

짧은 문장이었지만, 그 안에는 감정의 정확도가 담겨 있었다.
그 순간, **‘영어는 단어보다 느낌의 정확도’**라는 걸 다시 느꼈다.

🤖 Topic 2 — AI, Fake News, and Real English Thinking

T: Nowadays, AI is making fake news more believable.
AI-generated photos and videos look so real.
Sometimes it’s hard to tell what’s real and what’s fake.

Me: How can you distinguish real news from fake news?

T: First, you have to ask — What is the source?
Cross-reference with fact-checkers or other sources.
And look for legitimate news sites.

그는 “legitimate”이라는 단어를 말하며 입모양까지 천천히 보여줬다.
‘법적으로 인정된, 공신력 있는’이라는 뜻이라고 설명했다.

그 말을 듣는 순간,
**‘진짜 뉴스란 결국 믿을 수 있는 출처에서 온 것’**이라는 감이 왔다.

🗝 Expressions I Learned

• tell the difference — 구별하다
• legitimate — 합법적, 신뢰할 만한
• cross-reference — 교차 검증하다
• fact-checker — 사실 검증 기관

짧은 표현들이었지만, 세상을 보는 눈이 한 뼘은 자란 기분이었다.

✍ Immersion Moment — “My blog is my English world”

T: Can you make a sentence using the word immersion?
Me: Writing my blog is not just a hobby for me.
It’s total immersion writing.

그 말을 하자 튜터가 웃었다.
“You’re already creating your own immersion!”

그 말이 참 기분 좋았다.
영어는 교재 속 문장이 아니라,
내 블로그 속, 내 하루의 언어로도 살아 있다는 걸 느꼈다.

🌼 Reflection

수업을 마치며 튜터가 말했다.
“You’re already doing immersion — using an English dictionary,
watching movies with English subtitles…”

그 말이 힘이 되었다.

이날의 주제였던 **“telling the difference”**는
결국 영어에도, 삶에도 똑같이 적용되는 말이었다.

진짜와 가짜를 가려내는 일.
그건 말의 세계에서도, 마음의 세계에서도
늘 필요한 연습이니까.
